In the past 2 years, watercolor has taken me on a new path to teaching. I've been giving classes at the Wantagh Public Library and will do so again this Fall. I had no idea how much I was going to enjoy it! The students have been amazing in their enthusiasm and hard work. In a class with between 8 and 15 students, I make time to share information and demonstrate to the group, but my favorite part is going around and working one-on-one with each of them. I try to make this happen at least 3 times with each student during the 3 hour class. It is so rewarding when you see the hidden talent that people have no idea they possess. I love when I stay after to help a student by demonstrating a technique that will take them further with their work, then I look up and realize that several other students stayed to watch and learn! Totally gratifying!!!
2016 Town Supervisors Award
This award recently earned at the BACCA (Babylon Citizens Council of the Arts) juried art show. I did not 'ribbon' (via the judge) but was very honored that Babylon's Town Supervisor, Rich Schaffer, chooses one painting out of about 300 works and gives his own award!

Away too long!!!
These 5 painting have been entered for acceptance (hopefully, at least one will get selected) into the National Juried Art Competition. Selected winners will be exhibited in the East End Art Gallery in Riverhead. The theme of the contest is H2O, so into the archives I went and pulled out 4. I painted "Tears" specifically for the contest. For this painting, I tried to throw all Ninon to the wind and paint from an unexpected place in my mind... It was kind of fun. One of my nieces,
who knows me very well commented, "Wow, kind of dark for you Nin." And then I sort of knew I nailed it!

Bragging a little here..."Ethereal Floral" took 1st Place in the Babylon Arts Council juried art exhibition. Frustrated and angry, I almost scrapped this painting because it was 'going nowhere'. I then thinned out some white paint and started fooling around with what I thought was a cross between maybe see-through petals or butterfly wings! Voila, it came together!!! Thank you all for viewing and for your supportive and encouraging compliments. No artist can exist or produce without it :)

The new season...
Happy spring to all my viewers and thank you again for checking in. The season brings an appreciation for color, particularly in flowers. I've always been very comfortable using heavy and dramatic color. In many ways, it defines my spirit and personality. The 2 Snow Barn scenes however, required a 'backing down' and limited palette of color in order to achieve the serenity and pureness of undisturbed snow.
But we all gladly bid the winter and snow goodbye and welcome the warmth, beauty and promise of spring. Enjoy! - Ninon
